Printers, Copiers and Faxes
Traditionally the fax machine has operated largely independently of the Telephone System with its own direct line not going through the system. Occasionally a fax machine was connected to an analogue port in the Telephone System to allow the use of the line a voice line as well (usually very small operations keen to save money on one line rental) or occasionally larger operations operating a few fax machine they wish to be able to control in-bound transmission to. Also there have been those companies that fax directly into their computer network – usually a direct line into one computer with the computer just acting in a similar manner to a fax machine.
These days’ things have changed. Some systems are able to provide, or be upgrade with, Unified Messaging or Email Gateway. Programs which now allow faxes to come into your Outlook mailbox and be saved, recorded and stored along with your voicemail.
